Raw new single explores the societal behaviors and norms that prep victims for abuse and keep them silent.
SEATTLE, WA — June 12, 2026 — Seattle-based artist Katie Wright releases “Culture,” a searing protest anthem that transforms trauma into collective action. The third single from her forthcoming concept album Cycles, “Culture” confronts rape culture with a fury that builds to an unforgettable rallying cry: “The culture is rotten, expose the truth.”
Behind the Song
“‘Culture’ sits at the turning point of the album where individual pain becomes collective power,” Wright explains. “It’s that moment when you stop asking what you did to deserve abuse and start demanding change and accountability in the way we protect abusers.’”
The track examines the cultural forces that enable abuse. Wright’s vocals carry exhaustion and defiance in equal measure as the song builds from bitter critique to an anthemic protest chant.
“This song is about recognizing that your story isn’t isolated. It’s part of a pattern.” Wright says. “And the culture feeding you blame for your abuse is part of the pattern and the problem.”
From Individual to Collective
Following May’s brutally honest “Toxic,” which examined self-blame in the aftermath of toxic relationships, “Culture” represents the next stage in Cycles. Where “Toxic” wrestled with personal responsibility for repeated harm, “Culture” redirects that accountability where it belongs: on the systems that normalize abuse.
“The album traces an arc,” Wright notes. “It starts with breaking silence about childhood trauma and moves through the wreckage in adult life. ‘Culture’ is where individual pain transforms into collective uprising. You’re exhausted, but you’re not alone.”
Cycles ventures deep into territory Wright began exploring with April’s “DLG”: childhood trauma, survival, toxic relationships, and the long path to healing. The complete 15-track album, due July 2026, promises to be her most vulnerable and vital work yet.
About Katie Wright
Katie Wright is a Seattle-based singer-songwriter, visual artist, and advocate. Known for her podcast, Staying Connected, and advocacy for people with VEDS (Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome), Wright brings the same unflinching honesty to her music that has defined her advocacy work.
Her 2025 debut album, Glitter, processed her life with a rare, life-threatening connective tissue disorder. Cycles represents an evolution — Wright using her platform to explore the formative experiences that shaped her development as a person.
Wright performs at Seattle-area open mics and creates songs that refuse to shy away from difficult truths. She also designs light-hearted sticker art as Sillybug Studios, believing in the importance of both processing pain and celebrating joy.
