Powerful new single confronts grooming through deceptively sweet song; first taste of deeply personal concept album “Cycles”

SEATTLE, WA — April 24, 2026 — Seattle-based artist Katie Wright releases “DLG,” a haunting song that uses its sweet acoustic sound to reveal the insidious nature of childhood grooming. Released during Child Abuse Prevention Month, the single serves as the opening statement for Wright’s forthcoming concept album Cycles, set for July 2026.

Behind the Song

“DLG’s opening sounds like a love song. That’s the point,” Wright explains. “To the child being groomed, it feels like love. It looks sweet. It sounds sweet. And it’s so dangerous.”

The track opens with gentle ukulele strums and Wright’s warm vocals singing what could be mistaken for romantic lyrics: “I know just what you like. I talk to you all night.” Only as the song unfolds does the listener realize they’re hearing the internal narrative of a child being manipulated by an adult. “When I’m 18, you’ll be 27… we’ll get married, I’ll be legal.”

“I wrote this song because I needed to heal from this,” Wright says. “I’m releasing it because someone else out there needs to hear it. If this song hits close to home — you’re not alone. It wasn’t your fault. And it is not your shame to carry.”

From Surviving to Thriving

Wright, who lives with Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (VEDS), has leaned into creating art that refuses to shy away from difficult truths. Her 2025 debut album, Glitter, processed her life with a rare, life-threatening connective tissue disorder. Cycles ventures into territory she’s never publicly explored: childhood trauma, survival, and the long path to healing.

“Cycles is not Glitter,” Wright notes. “Glitter was me processing life with VEDS. Cycles is me processing everything else — the things that shaped my development as a person.”

The singles trace an arc from intimate horror (“DLG”) through personal reckoning (“Toxic,” due May) to collective action (“Culture,” June). The complete album culminates in a full picture of trauma, survival, and ultimately, commitment to interrupt the cycles of abuse for future generations.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

Wright’s decision to release “DLG” in April was deliberate. “April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and it seemed like the perfect time to share this song about my own story being groomed,” she says. The timing underscores her commitment to using music not just for personal healing, but for broader awareness and change.

About Katie Wright

Katie Wright is a Seattle-based singer-songwriter, visual artist, and advocate. Known for her podcast, Staying Connected, and advocacy for people with VEDS,  Wright brings the same energy to her music. She performs her music regularly at Seattle-area open mics, and also designs cute, light-hearted art in the form of stickers.

Yet, Wright’s music reflects her belief that art should tell the truth, even when — especially when — that truth is uncomfortable. Her upcoming album Cycles promises to be her most vulnerable and vital work yet.

Cycles Album

Cycles will be released July 2026, featuring 15 tracks that explore themes of childhood trauma, survival, healing, and empowerment. The album represents Wright’s evolution from processing her VEDS diagnosis to confronting the other formative experiences that shaped her life. The album was recorded at Seattle’s Winterblue Room with co-producer Alicia Healey, with Noe Navarro on bass and additional guitar, and Jason Edwards on percussion and drums. It was mastered by Rachel Field at Resonant Mastering, Seattle, WA, with mastering assistant, Annie Larkin.
